Go beyond the bird feeder to feed birds
Many birds seldom or never use feeders, and even those that do get only a relatively small part of their nutrition from feeders, especially during the critical nesting period.
“Your yard, whatever its size, can offer habitat for birds,” says Mariette Nowak, a southeastern Wisconsin bird and native plant expert and author of “Beyond the Bird Feeder: Creating a Bird-Friendly Yard with Native Wisconsin Plants.”
This 14-page, photo-filled booklet is a quick read and a great guide to native plants, why they provide far more food than ornamental plants common in our yards, and which ones are best for birds.
Email us your name and Wisconsin street address to get a printed copy of Beyond the Bird Feeder. Offer good while supply lasts.
