Where to buy native plants this fall

While spring planting is still the big Wisconsin tradition, there are growing options for purchasing native plants for fall planting.

More nature centers and conservation organizations are hosting in-person or online native plant sales in fall, which can be a great time to plant. See our listing below of the sales we’re aware of; check in with Wild Ones Wisconsin Chapters not listed below to see if they have fall sales, and please let us know if there are native plant sales this fall we should add to our list.

The number of Wisconsin native plant nurseries or nurseries offering native plants in spring as well as fall is growing as well. Johnson’s Nursery in Menomonee Falls and Prairie Nursery in Westfield are both longtime growers that are partnering with SOS Save Our Songbirds and sell a wide variety of plants for fall planting. White Pelican Farm Native Plant Nursery in Wyocena is another SOS partner that this fall will sell some plants and shrubs this fall, and allows people to reserve plants this fall for next spring.

Check Wisconsin’s DNR’s list of Wisconsin Native Plant Nurseries for other options near you.
